The author of soap operas Aguinaldo Silva, now out of Rede Globo, commented on some controversial issues about his stay at the station. Among the issues discussed by the writer is the reason why he did not cast actor Murilo Benício for his soap operas.
The playwright has been away from the network since 2020, when he was fired after 41 years. He is responsible for classics such as: “Roque Santeiro”, “Vale Tudo”, “Senhora do Destino” and “Fina Estampa”. However, his last work on Rede Globo was in 2019, with the soap opera “The Seventh Guardian”, a serial that was harshly criticized by experts.
The author says he was upset at the time with the sudden dismissal: “I confess that I was even relieved when I left Globo. The prospect of writing another soap opera in that system no longer pleased me.”
The author also commented in an interview on his dissatisfaction with the performance of actor Murílo Benício: “I had a certain discomfort with the way Murilo Benício’s lines were articulated, so much so that he didn’t do my soap operas. In this aspect, there was something that reminded me of James Dean (1931-1955), who mumbled words half between his teeth. But I don’t have any personal problem with Murilo, so much so that if you ask me if I would work with him today, I say yes”, he says.
