Brazilian reporter says she was a victim of harassment in an Olympics broadcastReproduction

EBC (Empresa Brasil de Comunicação) reporter Verônica Dalcanal said she was a victim of harassment while covering the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The reporter was participating in the live broadcast of TV Brasil, last Saturday (3), when she was sexually harassed by three men. While reporting the latest events of the Brazil team, the men, apparently foreigners, approached and began to sing.

One of them approached and kissed the journalist’s face without consent. Then, another came close and repeated the action.

“We know that it is normal for fans to interact with reporters, especially live, I just talked to some French fans. But they were very disrespectful to me and crossed limits. They touched me, anyway… I can’t even describe what happened properly. I don’t intend to see the images of how this happened,” the reporter told the live broadcast when telling what happened.

“I think it’s sad that this happens, that this is repeated. In 1900, in this city [Paris], women began to participate in the Olympic Games. This edition, 124 years later, is the edition with equity, with women participating on an equal footing. It’s a shame that we can’t have the freedom to work like men can. It’s really very sad,” he added.

Verônica even received the support of the station, EBC journalism editor Cidinha Matos and the Minister of Women Gonçalves.
