Ferrari unveils sports car with 820 hp V12 root engine; Listen to the snore

Ferrari 12Cilindri is inspired by the past and has been in development since 2020Disclosure

Ferrari surprisingly presented its newest supercar, the 12Cilindri, which as the name suggests, features a 12-cylinder engine, a sign of resistance to electrification that many manufacturers have been adopting in recent years.

The new sports car replaces the 812 GTS in the brand’s range and pays homage to models of the past such as the 365 GTB/4, also known as the Daytona. The design was conceived at the Maranello facility by Flavio Manzoni and his team.

Ferrari 12Cilindri has a very characteristic shape of a traditional GTDisclosure

The main visual feature of the 12Cilindri is the long bonnet and short rear overhang, making the inspiration for the 365 GTB/4 very clear. The front also harkens back to the past with a slim bumper and almost horizontal headlights, reminiscent of the 365’s turn signal lights, which had retractable headlights. Interestingly, between the optical assembly, there is a black stripe with the brand’s logo in the center. In the promotional images, the piece in the contrasting color seems to be a standard item.

The front also features carbon fiber appliques on the bumper that houses generous variable-flow air intakes for the V12. Catafalque. The hood has a very simple design, with two air vents and two wheel rises that give the Italian sports car a muscular feel.

The rear features a large black area, which gives a unique design to the section. Looking at the car from above, the body color seems to take a back seat, as the black of the front columns, the glazed area and the black one at the rear give the impression of taking up more space than the bodywork.

The roof trim is worthy of a GT itself, so practicality should not be the strong suit of the 12Cilindri, with room for only a few suitcases, although GTs are designed for long trips.

Continuing at the rear, the fenders follow the design of the front and are very high, which maintains the idea of muscle for the 12Cilindri. The lanterns are thin, appearing to be only LEDs and an evolution of the parts used in Rome and Purosangue. The rear bumper has a large black carbon appliqué and houses the dual exhaust outlets and air extractor.

Ferrari 12Cilindri’s interior does not present major revolutionsDisclosure

The interior only has space for two people and does not deviate much from the other models of the Italian manufacturer. The rev counter in the center of the instrument panel is digital and also has a 10.3-inch multimedia and an auxiliary screen for the passenger, as well as the Roma and Purosangue.

Engine

The V12 F140HD is from the same family of naturally aspirated V12s that has equipped Ferraris since the early 2000s. Its trajectory began at Enzo and continues in line to this day with modifications to maintain increasingly strict emission standards. The reality is that the 12Cilindri may be the last 100% combustion Ferrari launched.

The V12 delivers 820 hp of power at 9,250 rpm and 69 kgfm of torque at 7,250 rpm. Therefore, when accelerating the 12Cilindri, don’t be merciful and change gears at very high revs.

The transmission is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with shorter ratios and faster shifts than the 7-speed unit in the 812 Competizione. According to Ferrari, the 0-100 km/h time is around 2.9 seconds, while the 0-200 km/h time is under 7.9 seconds.

Prices and availability

According to the European press, which was present at the launch event, the base price of the New Ferrari 12Cilindri will be around 400 thousand euros, or 2.1 million reais in direct conversion. Deliveries of the first units are scheduled for the end of this year.
