A driver whose car was engulfed in flames after an accident was saved by a group of people driving along the I-94 highway in Minnesota last Thursday.

According to the Minnesota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. last Thursday on the I-94 freeway. A Honda CR-V escaped the track, hit a lamppost, and ended up catching fire. The driver was unable to get out of the vehicle, as the guardrail prevented the left door from opening.

Kadir Tolla, one of those involved in the rescue, told FOX9 that the driver was conscious and calling for rescue: “He was awake and screaming ‘get me out of here, get me out of here’.

Tolla and four other people attempted to carry out the rescue, which was only completed after the arrival of an employee who works on the highway with a specific tool to break the vehicle’s glass, causing the driver to be able to be removed from the car.

“I may be in that situation one day. What would happen if I was in this situation and my life depended on people I don’t know who they are?” concluded Tolla, who said the incident was the most fearful moment of his life.

According to local police, the driver trapped in the car did not suffer any injuries, although he was transported by ambulance to an area hospital to be evaluated by a medical team.
