Influencer Issues Warning After Fainting from Taking Diuretics to Appear Slimmer in Photos

“The producer wouldn’t let me drink water after I woke up so I wouldn’t look swollen in the photos,” says Mariana Dutra

37-year-old influencer Mariana Dutra spoke about the pressure of the perfect image after being questioned for glorifying thinness in Instagram photos. Mariana recalled fainting recently after taking a diuretic to look slimmer in photos, but she counters, “People talk about my body without understanding the truth behind the scenes. I fainted from taking diuretics to look slimmer in the photos and thought it was normal, but it shouldn’t be. This isn’t natural,” she emphasized.

Mariana shares that taking diuretics before photo shoots is common among models. “We’re dehydrated all the time. I fainted because of it, and when I was revived, I remember they asked to give me water, but the producer immediately stopped it, saying I shouldn’t drink to not look swollen and continued taking my photos on the beach,” she said.

The fashion influencer says that the photos she posts on Instagram are not excessively photoshopped, but they take a greater toll to produce. “It’s very exhausting because we can go hours without eating or drinking anything to reach an unattainable standard. It’s a huge strain, but that in the photo is me and my real body.”

Speaking about her body, she emphasizes that she is healthy and has medical supervision. “My endocrinologist always says I’m fine, that my body is great. But for fashion, it needs to be even slimmer, it’s a discussion we need to talk about more.”
