Some foods can be appetizing and even healthy for humans. However, for dogs, they can be dangerous and put the animal’s health at risk for metabolic and physiological reasons. Here are some foods that are considered toxic to dogs.  

1. Chocolate 

As veterinarian Aluizio Nunes dos Santos explains, the substance methylxanthine, present in chocolate, can lead to cases of severe poisoning in a href=”https://portaledicase.com/6-fases-do-crescimento-de-um-cachorro/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>dogs and, if not identified and treated in time, can lead to death. When consumed, this food can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, muscle tremors, among others.  

2. Coffee 

Coffee contains caffeine, which can be extremely harmful to dogs, causing symptoms similar to chocolate poisoning. It is dangerous for the nervous, urinary and cardiac systems of dogs. 

3. Onion  

Onions contain a substance called thiosulfate, which is toxic to dogs. It damages the dog’s red blood cells, which can lead to anemia. In addition, this food can cause problems in the animal’s digestive system.

to veterinarian Aluizio Nunes dos Santos, pasta in general can cause abdominal distension and pain in the dog, because of the presence of yeast, leading the pet to develop colic and produce gas.

Milk consumption can also harm the health of dogs. “Over time, as with humans, animals can stop producing the enzyme lactase, which is responsible for ‘breaking down’ the lactose present in milk and, therefore, can have diarrhea, gas and abdominal discomfort,” warns veterinarian Jade Petronilho.

Sweets and treats in general are high in sugar and artificial ingredients that are not healthy for dogs. In addition, as Aluizio Nunes dos Santos explains, they can cause obesity and dental problems, as well as diabetes.

High-fat foods can cause digestive problems and pancreatitis in dogs, an inflammatory condition of the pancreas that can be serious.

They may contain harmful bacteria, such as salmonella, which can cause poisoning food in dogs, leading to severe gastrointestinal symptoms.

In addition, the food also contains caramboxin, which favors neurological changes.

It is essential to keep these foods out of reach of dogs and avoid sharing meals with them unless they are specifically prepared to meet their nutritional needs.
