After rumors that Messi, the dog from “Anatomy of a Fall” would not attend the Oscars 2024 ceremony – for allegedly overshadowing human actors and other productions – the Border Collie not only attended, but had his own chair, alongside his guardian, Laura Contini, and the film’s technical team.
The presence of the little dog, however, was also shrouded in suspicion that his participation had actually been recorded at another time, which was denied shortly afterwards, as the video was just one of the mascot’s rehearsals for his participation in the famous day.
One of the moments that stood out the most was when the 7-year-old animal appears “clapping his hands”, with the right to an amused reaction from actor Ryan Gosling, who was in the running for Best Supporting Actor for “Barbie”, an award that went to actor Robert Downey Jr. for “Oppenheimer”.

Messi’s tutor, an experienced animal trainer for film and theater, said in an interview with The Wildest that she “always knew he was a very intelligent dog” and that, despite this being his film debut, he had already taken part in smaller productions.
“He had already appeared in some music videos and commercials, but we always had problems with castings because of his very specific physique and appearance and because his eyes were very light,” he explained.
The friendly dog took part in pre-Oscars photo shoots and interviews and became a real Hollywood star, so many hoped that he might receive a special award during the awards, which didn’t happen. However, the canine actor had already received a Palm Dog, a special award given to dogs, during the Cannes Film Festival.
