With 1.30m and just over 10kg, Xartrux, a Maine Coon, 6 years old, lives with his guardians in Jaú, 235 km from São Paulo. Márcia Oliveira and Jean Martins have the dream of taking him to the Guinness World Records as the largest cat in the world.
The couple, who have been breeding cats of the breed for 13 years, have the challenge of overtaking the Italian Barivel, also of the same breed, the record holder since 2018. The current champion measures 10 centimeters shorter and if the measurements indicated by Xartrux’s guardians are confirmed by Guinness, the São Paulo cat has a chance of taking the title for himself.
“He was born at home and was the smallest kitten in the litter, not even 80 grams. He was very small, we thought he wouldn’t develop, but little by little he passed his siblings,” Márcia told G1.
“[Nowadays] when we measure him from the tip of his nose to his tail, and if he’s relaxed, we can get to 1.35 meters”, she reveals. Márcia is following the process of validating Xartrux’s entry in the Guinness Book and with the return of the application, which should take place between the end of April and the beginning of May, Guinness is expected to carry out an official measurement.
These measurements always take place in the presence of a journalist, a photographer and a judge, to sign and prove the declaration of the record. From there, the couple will make a presentation for the feline to become a world record holder. This will take place at an exhibition held by the Brazilian Cat Club in São Paulo in July, where Guinness representatives will also be present.
