Merlin, a dog with no defined breed, has completed one year of adoption, and his guardians decided to share a video on social media in which the puppy “narrates” his story from the day he was found by his family, who live in Rio de Janeiro.

“Today [February 10] marks exactly one year since my humans rescued me. They were traveling and, as they were about to enter the garage, they spotted me under a car. They took me into the house, gave me food and water,” began the mongrel.

In the caption of the post, the pet’s parents say that, at first, they didn’t intend to keep the puppy. After feeding him and letting him rest in a covered area for the night, they posted an ad on social media looking for someone interested in adopting the puppy. However, no one was interested.

The couple then decided to take the puppy home to Rio and give him a temporary home. However, on the way back, everything changed: “As soon as we started the journey back, we already felt that he would be our four-legged son,” says the Instagram post.

“We chose the name right there, in the car! He came back from 6 hours of traffic jams and rain clinging to and sleeping with his new human. Looking back on everything we’ve experienced in the last year, we’re so happy to have crossed his path. It’s so much love, but so much that it overflows… we’re a family, the three of us.”

The video, which already has more than 3 million views, shows moments of the puppy having his first family meal, learning to eat mango – which later made his list of favorite foods – and even learning new commands.

“Everything we can do to ensure that he always has this happy life, with trips, delicious food and games, we will do. He adopted us, he chose us and we would choose to bring him back a thousand more times. We love you so much, little son, you are everything and more! Life is so much better with you,” add the guardians.
